Unified Technology Platform

Assignment

Hachette, the largest book publisher in the UK asked Leading Resolutions to design and implement a unified technology platform to consolidate its current business, integrate new acquisitions and position it for continued growth.

Approach

The Leading Resolutions team consisted of technology, project management and service management specialists. The project covered the design of an infrastructure incorporating a twin data centre solution. This was established alongside SAN to SAN data replication and software based Microsoft Distributed File System technology for secure data transmission across sites and included the implementation of a single Microsoft active directory and exchange environment. The solution delivered a disaster recovery policy, comprehensive design and operating documentation and new standards for the specification and management of computer facilities.

Results

1500 users were successfully migrated to the new flexible environment, which could accommodate future acquisitions with minimal impact on the business. The infrastructure was optimised with enhanced security, whilst service stability was significantly improved in critical areas such as email, file and print and data networks. The dependence on any one individual office was reduced and new management systems and best practices were introduced into Hachette’s UK day to day operations. In addition, Hachette were left with a five year perspective on the direction of its IT through a strategic infrastructure roadmap.

Leading Resolutions went to great lengths to understand our business processes and IT needs - and it shows. Our systems are now considerably more stable, efficient and cost effective. We also have a far clearer idea of how our IT strategy will develop in the years ahead.
