Case Study

Leading Resolutions was engaged to conduct a general roadmap and strategy evaluation. At the centre of this project was the drive to reduce complexity and cost for the Trust.

The National Trust, formally the National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty, is a conservation charity completely independent of Government. They solely rely on income from membership fees, donations and legacies, and revenue raised from commercial operations.

With over 5 million members and 61,000 volunteers, more than 26 million people visit their pay for entry properties, while an estimated 200 million visit a wide range of open-air properties. National Trust is passionate about protecting and keeping open to the public over 500 historic houses, castles, ancient monuments, gardens, parks and nature reserves.

The Challenge

The National Trust was improving IT systems and infrastructure across the entire National Trust estate. So, Leading Resolutions was engaged to conduct a general roadmap and strategy evaluation. At the centre of this project was the drive to reduce complexity and cost for the Trust.

Part of the scope of the evaluation was to conduct a review of the existing technology systems, including email and Microsoft tools.

Leading Resolutions conducted an in-depth review and analysis, which included:

1
A review of what the Trust currently had in place
2
Technology and market research including peer analysis and Gartner benchmarking.
3
Market trend analysis
4
Vendor strategy to find best-fit supplier for the National Trust

The Results

The resulting architect strategy highlighted an instant win regarding mail service migration.

A detailed and compelling business case was developed proposing the move of mail services to a cloud solution with the recommendation that Microsoft Office 365 is adopted.

This recommendation was based on a number of factors: risk mitigation, linear scalability, a lower TCO, and the transition from a Capex to Opex expenditure model.

The return on investment from engaging Leading Resolutions to develop our digital strategy is huge both in terms of cost savings and efficiency.
