The Challenge

Sony was undergoing a significant reshaping of its European business operation. As part of the restructure, Sony was seeking to consolidate its European IT support and service operations including the five data centre operations which were spread across Europe, however, Sony were facing planning constraints around building a new data centre in the UK.

The consolidation was vital and targeting significant cost savings and had to deliver with absolutely no impact to the on-going business.

The Challenge

Sony was undergoing a significant reshaping of its European business operation. As part of the restructure, Sony was seeking to consolidate its European IT support and service operations including the five data centre operations which were spread across Europe, however, Sony were facing planning constraints around building a new data centre in the UK.

The Solution

Leading Resolutions developed the business case, and mobilised and managed a formal tendering process for the construction of a state-of-the-art data centre in the UK. Our team managed the implementation of the data centre consolidation and relocation into this new centre from inception to commissioning. As Sony were facing planning constraints, Leading Resolutions also managed the tendering process for the construction of the new UK data centre.

We completed the data centre transition over one weekend, and despite the sheer size of the project, IT Operations Director Tim Perry said, “the project was executed transparently to the business with no service impact and enabled savings of £2.15m per annum.”

Appropriate technology strategies were developed, and specialist project management capability was deployed to oversee the full implementation and manage the physical relocation of the existing data centre as well as the physical relocation of servers from Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Austria to Weybridge, UK, which is now the disaster recovery centre.
